The exhibition is available for viewing Tuesdays - Saturdays, from 1-5 pm, through Thursday, October 16. It is free and open to the public.
Bennington once again fared well in several national rankings compiled by The Princeton Review’s annual Best Colleges Guide, including “Professors Get High Marks” (#2), “Best Classroom Experience” (#4), "Best Theater" (#4), and “Most Accessible Professors" (#6). The College’s theater spaces and student houses were also recognized as being among the country’s most outstanding campus spaces.
It was not quite a year ago that I arrived on the Bennington campus, thrilled to be joining this remarkable community—a community that over the next twelve months would add two more Pulitzers to its ranks, two more Fulbrights, another New York Times Magazine cover story, an upcoming solo exhibition at the Walker Art Center, an Echoing Green Fellowship, and countless other triumphs large and small.
On view through September 3 at Bennington’s Usdan Gallery are iconic abstract works from the College’s Collection, including works by David Smith, Helen Frankenthaler ‘49, Larry Poons, Pat Adams, Hans Hofmann, Pat Adams, and other influential figures. The exhibition includes a sculpture by Sir Anthony Caro, on view for the first time ever, which was created using David Smith’s metal after his death.
