Borrowing Information
Students
Information for borrowing:
- Your Bennington College ID card serves as your library card. If you don’t have your ID card, you can just provide your last name at the front desk.
- Loan time periods can be found here.
- Extended loan periods are available during Field Work Term and over the summer.
- The library has PC and Mac laptops available for use in Crossett Library. They can be checked out for 24-hour periods. Students should be aware that anything saved to the laptop hard drive may be erased on a regular basis.

Local Patrons
Guests are welcome to use the library's print and online resources for research. Up to 20 items may be checked out at one time on these cards. Additional items may sometimes be checked out with permission from the library staff.
Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries
Faculty members from institutions that belong to the Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries (VCAL) member institutions are eligible to borrow up to 20 books from Crossett Library for a period of 30 days. Faculty members interested in borrowing from Crossett should bring a Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries, Faculty Reciprocal Borrowing form, signed by the home institution, and picture ID. Please note VCAL library hours below.

Interlibrary Loan
In order to better serve the Bennington College community, Crossett Library Interlibrary Loan has transitioned to a cloud-based Interlibrary Loan platform that replaces ILLiad.

Interlibrary Loan Periods
Loan periods are determined by the lending library. The lending library may recall an item at any time. Renewals are at the discretion of the lending library. Learn more about ILL.
Off-Campus Access
Databases
Our Databases are restricted to current students, faculty, and staff of Bennington College. When you click on a title of a database or electronic resource from off-campus you may be redirected to an authentication page. If you are unsure whether your patron record is current, please feel free to contact us. Resources that are not available off-campus are indicated in the description like so: **Not accessible off campus**.
Steps to Access
1. When you click on a resource with restricted access, you will be required to login via Google, using your Bennington credentials.
2. Once you have entered this, you will be redirected to the resource.
Problems with Access
If you continue to have difficulties, please email Jared Della Rocca, JDellaRocca@bennington.edu. Please include a detailed account of the steps that you have taken, the wording of the error messages that was generated, and if possible- whether the error messages were generated from the resource website, or the library website.
Reserve a Library Space
Faculty and students can reserve the library meeting room for informal gatherings, study groups, or meetings. The library meeting room is a beautiful space on the top level of the library. It is equipped with digital projection for laptops, DVDs (both domestic and international format) and VHS. The space is ideal for 12 people.
