The strength of Bennington's program comes in part from the space it affords students--intellectual, creative, and physical--and the access it gives them to opportunities on and off campus. The College has more than 10 performance and rehearsal spaces, a total of over 35,000 square feet, although performances are also often staged in common areas, outdoor areas, and other spaces. Students of all class years may audition and perform in faculty-directed productions, as well as student-directed works.

Bennington is also unique in that students are required, every year, to get work experience--a job, internship, or entrepreneurial experience--that is then integrated into their academic pursuits. In the past five years, students have spent Field Work Term at over 120 theaters across the country and internationally, including The Groundlings Theatre & School (Los Angeles, CA); Long Wharf Theatre Company (New Haven, CT); Studio Theatre and Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company (Washington, DC); Lookingglass Theatre Company and Second City Theater (Chicago, IL); Atlantic Theater Company, The Flea Theater, HERE Arts Center, LaMaMa, New York Theatre Workshop, The Public Theatre, Second Stage Theatre, and Signature Theatre Company (New York, NY); Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble (Bloomsburg, PA); and Dorset Theatre Festival (Dorset, VT).
