The Foundation for Contemporary Arts has announced its 2016 grant recipients. Among the winners are Barbara Bloom ’72 for her work in the visual arts, and Melinda Ring MFA ’01 for her dance and performance work. Former faculty member in dance Nora Chipaumire, who taught at Bennington in 2009, also received an award.

The Wall Street Journal profiles Ann Goldstein '71, who translated works by Elena Ferrante, Jhumpa Lahiri and Primo Levi, and has become a rare celebrity among translators.

Bryn Mooser ’01 has received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Short for Body Team 12, which he coproduced with David Darg. The film follows the lone female member of a team responsible for collecting the bodies of the dead during the Ebola outbreak in Liberia.

Bennington alumni play a starring role in The Millions’ list of Most Anticipated Books of 2016, which includes works by Hannah Tennant-Moore MFA ’10, Sara Majka MFA ’09, Cynthia Sweeney MFA ’13, and Charles Bock MFA ’97, as well as faculty member Alexander Chee. 

Carol Channing ’42 is being celebrated by the New York City Center on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of her stage debut. In this podcast, she describes auditioning for her first role, a comic chanteuse in a political play, while still a sophomore at Bennington College.
