Our physical health includes how we physically feel, which can be influenced the quality sleep we get on a regular basis.

Why is it important?

Our bodies need sleep to rejuvenate and for both our minds and bodies to operate as our best possible selves. Lack of sleep can make it difficult to concentrate. Lack of sleep can have a cumulative impact on our bodies called sleep debt. Sleep debt causes mental and physical fatigue.

Tips to get better sleep

  • Set a regular bedtime and waking time, try not to vary it by more than an hour.

  • In order to get good quality sleep, avoid alcohol and stimulants, such as caffeine and nicotine before going to bed. Although sometimes we feel these substances may ‘relax’ us, they interfere with the quality of sleep.

  • Ensure that your sleep environment is as optimum as possible. If you and your roommate have different bed times, consider earplugs and eye masks to ensure that its dark and limited sounds.

  • If you aren’t able to sleep, get up and try to do something else.

  • Use your bed only for sleeping and sex.
