kira shiina (they/she) is a freelance dance artist, sound practitioner, and educator.
Biography
shiina is a freelance dance artist, sound practitioner, and educator based in the land of the Lenape people, known today as Philadelphia. They received a BFA in Dance from the University of the Arts under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield and went on to become an Adjunct Assistant Professor in 2021 until the university's closure in 2024. shiina has performed with project-based companies BigKid Dance, slowdanger, and waheedworks. As a creative associate and assistant to choreographer Tommie-Waheed Evans, shiina has had the opportunity to collaborate with Evans on new creations and restagings for BalletX, Ohio Contemporary Ballet, Philadanco, St. Louis Dance Theatre, and universities such as Drexel University, Muhlenberg College, and UArts. Currently, shiina is a member of MICHIYAYA Dance and is in her second season with Sidra Bell Dance New York.
shiina is a visiting faculty member in the BFA Dance Lab at Bennington for Spring 2025.
