Bennington College Book News: Winter 2025
Bennington College alumni are publishing novels, memoirs, short story, non-fiction, and poetry books. Check out the round up below to learn who was published this winter.
S.C. Jackson ’05 published The Aluminum Lining: A Memoir of Psychosis and Recovery. It is a powerful tale of her transformation, from the depths of psychosis to a triumphant return to sanity. Jackson writes, “I believe we need more schizophrenic voices in our culture to combat the huge stigma against this illness, which is a treatable condition and not something to be terrified of. My hope is that this memoir can also help other schizophrenics and their caretakers.” The Aluminum Lining, available on Amazon, illustrates the reality of living with schizophrenia, and offers practical solutions for recovery.
Chaya Bhuvaneswar MFA ’24 will publish her novella Lalita as part of the collection Proper Imposters by Panhandler Books on January 28, 2025.
Charles Block MFA 97’s memoir I Will Do Better was published in October from Abrams Press. Kirkus gave it a starred review and called it, "A uniquely forthright and powerful addition to the literature of fatherhood."
Linda Michel-Cassidy MFA ’15 sold her story collection When We Were Hardcore to Eastover Press. It is slated for publication January 21, 2025.
Mollie Hawkins MFA ’23 will publish Saxophone, a book in the Object Lessons series by Bloomsbury, on February 6, 2025.
Radha Marcum ’96’s second poetry collection, Pine Soot Tendon Bone, winner of the 2023 Washington Prize, is now available. Carol Moldaw says: “Radha Marcum writes unflinchingly and with a rare synthesis of lyric and scientific intelligence, investigating just what it is to exist with consciousness now. Charged, luminous, and hard-won, these poems are indispensable.”
Palgrave Macmillan published The Novel and Neuroscience from Dostoevsky to Ishiguro by Nina Pelikan Straus ’64 in January 2025.
Lena Valencia ’07’s debut short story collection Mystery Lights came out in August 2024 with Tin House Books and in the UK in November 2024 with Dead Ink Books.
