On Monday, September 23, 2024, California Attorney General Rob Bonta launched a game changing lawsuit against ExxonMobil, the largest producer of single-use plastic polymers, for its role in deceiving the public about plastic recycling and chemical recycling. This groundbreaking lawsuit seeks to hold major players in the plastics industry accountable for the harm their fraud has caused. “ExxonMobil not only promotes and produces the largest amount of plastic that becomes plastic waste in California,” Bonta’s lawsuit argues, “it has also deceived Californians for almost half a century by promising that recycling could and would solve the ever-growing plastic waste crisis.”
If successful, Attorney General Bonta’s lawsuit could force Exxon to stop its alleged lying about recycling, take action to prevent further pollution, and pay for the damages their alleged deception has caused. Accountability on this issue is urgently needed.
Please join Beyond Plastics and special guest, California Attorney General Rob Bonta on January 22, 2025 for a free educational webinar to learn more about this groundbreaking lawsuit.
In part two of the webinar, Beyond Plastics President Judith Enck will lead a discussion about how residents of other states can urge their own Attorneys General to file similar suits.
