OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | Aurelie Thiele MFA '25 discusses her novel THE PARIS UNDERSTUDY (named one of ten noteworthy books published in September by The Washington Post), her road to publication, and the lessons she's learned along the way. In particular, she will explain how she got the initial idea for the novel; how the story evolved through many revisions; what she learned from doing historical research about Paris, World War II, and opera; how she found her agent; how she found her publisher; what the publishing process was like after the contract was signed; why she wrote the book in English instead of French; why she has a graduate degree in engineering; and what she learned from the many years she spent working on the book (especially, things she'd do differently). The event will conclude with Aurelie reading a short section of her book and a Q&A. Bring your questions!
