Kevin Barnes
Kevin Barnes (they/them) is a songwriter, producer, recording engineer, and performer. They have written and produced over twenty albums and have toured the world extensively with their band "of Montreal."
Biography
Barnes explores all musical genres in their work, from avant-garde classical music to freak-disco, and all points in-between. They are a self-taught musician that fell in love with cassette four-track recording as a teenager and have never slowed down. In addition to writing and self-producing dozens of albums for their own projects, they have also collaborated with Janelle Monae, Solange, Kishi Bashi, MGMT and many others.
Barnes' stage performances are highly theatrical events that subvert gender norms and pulsate with color. They have performed at Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Bonnaroo, as well as late-night TV shows like The David Letterman Show, The Tonight Show, and Conan O'Brien. Barnes was a visiting faculty member at Bennington for Fall 2024 and returns for Spring 2025.
