Beverly Acha
Beverly Acha is a New York-based visual artist working in painting, printmaking, and drawing. Her work engages visual and spatial languages of landscape, architecture, and diagrams. Through a process-based practice that embraces formal and material play, Acha’s work investigates the spaces between knowing and seeing, experience and memory, and the real and imagined.
Biography
Acha holds an MFA from Yale School of Art in Painting/Printmaking, BA from Williams College in Studio Art and American Studies, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her work has been exhibited widely including at El Museo del Barrio, the Albuquerque Museum, DC Moore Gallery, Zurcher Gallery, Underdonk, and Emerson Dorsch. Her work is in the public collections of the Soho House (Austin, TX and Miami, FL), the Allen Memorial Art Museum (Oberlin, OH), and the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art (Roswell, NM). She is the recipient of the Aon-CUE Artist Empowerment Award (2018) and her work has been featured in publications including New American Paintings, MAKE Magazine, Diacritics, and the Virginia Quarterly Review. She is the recipient of numerous awards and residencies including the Sharpe Walentas Studio Program (2021); Fountainhead Residency (2020); MacDowell Benny Andrews Fellowship (2019); Vermont Studio Center Zeta Orionis Fellowship (2019); Lighthouse Works Fellowship (2017) and Artist-in-Residence (2021), among others. Acha has previously taught at Yale School of Art, University of Texas at Austin, Oberlin College, University of California at Davis, and Williams College.
Acha joined the Bennington faculty in Fall 2023.
