Timothy Kane approaches mathematics with a classic perspective, considering its historical and theoretical development a universal human endeavor. He has been active in restorative justice through the Prison Education Initiative.

Biography

Kane has worked in diverse settings over twenty years of public education in New York City and Vermont. His work has focused on disadvantaged populations including Title I work with elementary students and the Twilight Program, a school to work program providing an alternative pathway to high school graduation. In collaboration with Southwest Tech, Kane developed CTE curriculum and instructional strategies to integrate mathematical skills and concepts into the Building Trades program to reinforce connections to employment. Since 2017 Kane has been active in restorative justice, teaching and developing curriculum through the Prison Education Initiative (PEI) at Bennington College working with students at Great Meadow Correctional Facility. Mathematics is a language accessible to all people, found in all facets of human experience. BA Wesleyan University, MSEd Mount Saint Mary College. Kane has been a visiting faculty member since 2022.
