Casey Bohlen is a historian of the modern United States. His work focuses on the shifting historical relationship between religion, democratic engagement, and American public life.
Biography
Bohlen is a historian of the modern United States. His scholarship and teaching focus on the relationship between religion and American public life, U.S. intellectual and political history, and the history of capitalism. His current book project, The Politics of Conscience, traces the rise and fall of mass religious civil disobedience in the mid-20th century United States. He is also the director of the Faith and Social Action Oral History Project, which was made possible by the generous funding of the Social Science Research Council. And he is involved in public-facing initiatives to draw upon historical scholarship in efforts to rebuild social solidarity and democratic life in our time. Bohlen was a visiting faculty member at Bennington for Fall 2022.
