MacPike's Masks for Bennington Students
Technical Instructor in Costume Production Richard MacPike is constructing face masks for Bennington students remaining on campus. Learn how to make your own.
While he works from home, Technical Instructor in Costume Production Richard MacPike has transformed his dining room into an office/classroom/sewing room.
In addition to using the space to make demo videos for his Pattern Making and Garment Construction course, MacPike is making fabric masks—both health-conscious and stylish!—for Bennington students remaining on campus.
To meet current CDC guidelines that the mask have two distinct sides, MacPike's rectangles are 7x9 with two 3/4 inch pleats, so that the side becomes 4 inches long. For his masks, MacPike isn't using a filter. While masks have different specs depending on the organization needing them, the social ones his is making are fine with just the two layers of fabric.
MacPike is adapting a pattern from Providence St. Joseph's Health, with full instructions available.
