Richard MacPike
Richard MacPike brings his experience working on Broadway shows such as The Lion King and companies like the Santa Fe Opera and Glimmerglass to his work as costume shop manager at Bennington.
Biography
MacPike joined Bennington as the Technical Instructor in Costume Production in Fall 2011. Since then he has overseen costumes for multiple dance and drama productions as well as designing costumes for Bennington productions of Dancing at Lughnasa and Great Expectations. Specializing in the area of costume production, MacPike’s course offerings have included draping, flat pattern drafting, tailoring, millinery, mask making, and fabric modification. For 10 years prior to joining Bennington he managed the costume shop at Cornell University where he designed costumes for several guest directors including Richard Schechner (Waiting for Godot), Joanna Settle (Good Person of Szechuan), and Regge Life (Little Women).
Previous to his time at Cornell, MacPike was a project manager for Parsons-Meares, Ltd., one of New York City’s prominent costume houses. While there he managed and assisted on a variety of Broadway shows such as Julie Taymor’s The Green Bird and The Lion King, Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey circuses, and Disney on Ice shows for Feld Entertainment, as well as projects for Walt Disney World and Disneyland. MacPike has also worked producing costumes for companies such as Huntington Theatre Company in Boston, the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, the Santa Fe Opera, and Glimmerglass Opera.
