Pianist and composer, Eric Hangen, performs and writes across a range of musical idioms including jazz, Latin, gospel and new age. He studied piano and jazz performance at Brown University and Berklee College of Music.


Biography

Hangen studied piano and jazz performance at Brown University and Berklee College of Music, where he was a recipient of the Berklee Professional Music Scholarship. He performs and writes across a range of musical idioms including jazz, Latin, gospel and new age. Hangen played in the Puerto Rican salsa scene, performing with renowned stars and Latin Grammy winners such as Celia Cruz, Willie Rosario, Andy Montañez, José “Cheo” Feliciano, Ismael Miranda, Orquesta Mulenze, Cano Estremera, and many more. On the jazz scene in the United States, he has performed and/or recorded with George Reed, Alex Alvear and Mango Blue, Amir Milstein, Bertram Lehmann, Chris White, Jacques Schwartzbart, and Bill McHenry. Hangen composed music for two albums, First Principles with the Cayuga Jazz Ensemble (2002), and Real You Real Me with La Ruta (2017). He was a jazz piano instructor at Bennington for Fall 2018.
