OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | Philadelphia-based ensemble David's Harp will present a exciting concert, showcasing the music of contemporary Istanbul. Driving folk music, plaintive and haunting ballads about love and betrayal, rousing and spirited dance tunes, and gritty songs of conflict and the struggles of urban life are all part of a soundscape that tells the story of this extraordinary city and its people. Istanbul's population is diverse and constantly evolving. Communities that have called it home for centuries share space with more recent arrivals, including thousands of refugees from Syria. Featuring songs in Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, Armenian, Ladino (Judeo-Spanish), Hebrew, and Greek, David's Harp will spotlight the enormous cultural, musical, and multilingual richness of this cosmopolitan city on two continents. Light reception to follow the concert.
