Steven Morics
Morics trained in combinatorics and his work now focuses on the intersections of mathematics and the social sciences, such as game theory, problems of fair division, and voting. His main interest is in how students learn mathematical concepts, leading to innovations in curriculum design.
Biography
Morics is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Redlands, where he has taught for over 20 years. He recently supervised student research projects on Ranked Choice Voting, Gerrymandering, and Fair Division Algorithms and has given talks on mathematics and politics on and around campus. Additionally, he served as the University's first Faculty Senate President.
In addition to mathematics, Morics has an interest in the performing arts. He is an accomplished trumpet player, performing with the School of Music Faculty Brass Quintet among other gigs, and last summer joined with the University's theater students in an adaptation of Hamlet which was performed both on campus and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. He was a visiting faculty member at Bennington for Spring 2018.
