The ABCs of Immigration

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | Berkshire Immigrant Center presents The ABCs of Immigration, a workshop that includes an overview of immigration laws, procedures, and terminology; immigration remedies for survivors of domestic violence and other crimes; and national and state-wide immigration news and advocacy.

The face of the Berkshires continues to change and our newest neighbors from all over the world are strong contributors to the cultural and economic fabric of our community. Immigrants and refugees face many unique integration challenges. Join us to discuss who is here, their reasons for coming, and the immigration obstacles they face. This workshop is designed to give students a broad but insightful overview of our current broken immigration system and will be of interest to those interested in law as well as advocacy.

The workshop will be led by Brooke Mead, executive director at the Berkshire Immigrant Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, which she joined in September of 2002. In addition to directorial work, Brooke manages a caseload of clients and provides workshops on immigration law. A Williamstown native and former high school Spanish teacher, she holds her master’s degree in Spanish from Middlebury College and has lived in Venezuela and Mexico. Brooke was named Immigrant Advocate of the Year by MIRA in 2009 and is an Accredited Representative for the Board of Immigration Appeals.
