Health Services: What We Do

Health Services provides students with direct and preventive care, health counseling, and education outreach. Its staff includes physicians, registered nurses, and a women's health nurse practitioner.

The Health Services staff can prescribe medication and refill existing prescriptions. Health Services is also responsible for issuing health-related alerts and communication to the Bennington community. Free safe sex and first aid supplies are available to students from Health Services, as well as in the student houses.

Health Services staff provides services one would expect at family practices in Vermont, such as “well” visits (check-ups and physicals), evaluation and management of acute and chronic medical problems, coordination of care with home physicians, health counseling, specialist referrals when necessary, some laboratory tests, and prescriptions for medications. Nutritional consultation is also available to students through Health Services. The services of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) in Bennington are used as needed for laboratory tests, x-rays, emergency care, and specialist consultation.

Health Insurance

All full-time Bennington College students must be covered by a health insurance policy. Unfortunately, the previously offered plan and other College-sponsored insurance plans are no longer available. Student must provide their own insurance coverage. It is the responsibility of the policyholder/student to inquire with a provider about whether they take their insurance and whether prior authorization by their primary care provider or insurance carrier is necessary for services away from home. Students should bring a copy of their current insurance card to appointments at the Health Center and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and plan accordingly to pay their bill for services. New students need to provide proof of health insurance by filling out the insurance question on the Practice Fusion intake form. Learn more about student health insurance.

TimelyCare Telehealth

In addition to our services in the Health Center, we are connected to TimelyCare, which provides 24/7 support. For more intensive concerns, referrals for consultation by outside providers are made when appropriate. During non-term times, information is provided for students needing health care locally.

Appointments

Appointments are required, and can be made in person, by email, or by the self-appointment link

Kat Seelye
Administrative Assistant
Student Health Center

Kat (she/her) is an experienced administrative assistant with a passion for both nature and creativity. Originally from Montana, Kat now calls Vermont home, where she embraces the vibrant fall colors and milder winters. She travels often—heading to Wisconsin to visit her husband's family and to California for her own—always accompanied by her two loyal companions, a Shepherd and a Black Mouth Cur, who share in the adventure of long road trips and beach visits at Agate Beach.

Weekends find her exploring Vermont's natural beauty, whether it’s taking a leisurely walk around Mile Around The Woods later in the day to catch a glimpse of owls or hiking at White Rocks during the warm months. While she sometimes misses Montana’s majestic mountains and wildlife, Vermont’s charm and comfort have won her over.

When the weather turns cooler, she loves retreating indoors. As an avid knitter and voracious reader, she spends her fall and winter hours crafting cozy wool socks—often as gifts for others—while diving into a good book. This blend of professional dedication, outdoor exploration, and creative passion defines who she is.
