Student Work
Material and Process
In The Language of Material and Process in Ceramics, students investigate the unique, material nature of clay as a sculptural medium. They learn to observe, interpret, and make art objects through a series of projects in drawing/collage and ceramic techniques. They explore the material aspects of clay, such as dryness, wetness, mass, and scale using a variety of mechanical processes that include extrusion, slab rolling, and molds. The pieces created are used to convey ideas of form and process as both the vocabulary and meaning expressed.
