Vapor IO Announces Series C Funding
Vapor IO, an early stage micro data center business focused on mobile edge computing (MEC) co-founded by Andrew Cencini, announced its Series C funding round led by private equity firm Berkshire Partners, with participation from current investor Crown Castle.
The new investment will be used to officially launch the company’s groundbreaking Kinetic Edge colocation and interconnection services, while rapidly expanding its footprint of edge data centers.
Since the company's founding, Bennington students and alumni have worked over Field Work Term and full-time after graduation to help build Vapor IO, including Erick Daniszewski '14, Klemente Gilbert-Espada '14, Nidesh Chitrakar '18, Morgan Morley Mills '17, Linh Hoang '18, Hoanh An '20, Sadip Giri '19, and Matt Jones '19.
Vapor IO's small data hub projects and Series C funding has garnered attention and praise in The Wall Street Journal, Data Center Knowledge, and Diginomica, among other outlets.
Austin-based Vapor did not disclose the size of the round, but Cole Crawford, its founder and CEO, said the private equity firm’s investments typically range between $50 million and $500 million, suggesting that its investment in Vapor was $50 million or more.
