Provost and Dean’s Office Staffing Changes During the Presidential Transition
Today, Provost and Dean Isabel Roche sent the following memo to Bennington College faculty and staff.
The coming year will be a year of transitions, and these transitions will provide opportunities. In the Provost and Dean’s office, we will build on our commitments to evolving and strengthening our structures of shared governance and pedagogical innovation. Our emphasis, as always, will be on supporting the work of faculty and staff in providing a transformative education for our students. Equally, it is essential that we maintain momentum around new ideas and initiatives coming out the Mellon grant, faculty committees, and the Provost and Dean’s Office.
Beginning July 1, John Bullock, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, will take on the role of Acting Provost. He will oversee faculty hiring, faculty performance review, and budgeting, and will join CSC and APC. The areas of his associate dean role pertaining to curriculum and mentoring will be shifted to a new faculty associate dean position, Associate Dean for Curriculum and Pedagogy. Detailed information on the position and the application process will be sent to faculty in a separate email.
Beginning July 1, Oceana Wilson, Dean of the Library, will take on the role of Acting Dean of the College. She will oversee the work of the offices of Student Life, Academic Services, Field Work Term, Academic Planning, and the Registrar’s Office, as well as the Library. In addition, Oceana will serve as the College’s Title IX coordinator for the 2019-20 academic year.
Please join me in congratulating John and Oceana, whose work in support of Bennington and its students over the course of many years has been nothing short of exemplary. The three of us look forward to working closely with you all in the coming year.
