President's Gallery Shows Work by Michael Stradley
Currently showing in the President's Gallery are recent works by visual artist and Bennington College 3D Technologist, Michael Stradley. They will be on view through April 2.
The show includes several large paintings and an artist book which explore how painterly affects and techniques can move into the space of the computer.
These works were produced in January 2017 as part of a 30-day pilot residency program in Beijing, China. The idea for a residency program developed out of discussions between Bennington College, Beijing MoCA, and the Peninsula Hotel. The residency offers an opportunity for Bennington faculty, staff, and alumni to travel to Beijing and pursue creative projects across a variety of disciplines.
Among its many ambitions, the residency encourages collaboration and exchange with Chinese thinkers and makers, and broadens Bennington’s international reach. In addition to writing and making, parts of the residency were spent traveling, attending exhibitions, speaking with local artists, and coordinating a future showing of the work in China.
