Peterson Awarded $25,000 Artist Grant
Literature faculty member Katie Peterson was one of 14 artists and the only poet to be awarded an unrestricted $25,000 grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts this year.
Peterson says the grant, for which she was anonymously nominated, will support her continued work on a new collection of poetry, which she's tentatively calling Permission.
"When I am writing," Peterson says, "vulnerabilities—states of fear and shame that cannot be endured in life—begin to seem pleasurable out of necessity. The hope is to give them form."
Past poets to receive an FCA grant include Harryette Mullen, Nathaniel Mackey, Rae Armantrout, and Bennington alumna Anne Waldman '67.
The Foundation awards grants annually to "outstanding or unusually promising artists" in the disciplines of dance, music/sound, performance art/theater, poetry, and the visual arts.
