My Mother's Daughter
Cultural conflict and resolution in the mother-daughter relationships in Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club
Thesis by Mai Tran '16

从《喜福会》看中西文化之冲突与融合,并分析本书吸引美国读者之处
Abstract: My thesis is a critical analysis of Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club as a representative of Chinese American literature after China Open. The focus of the analysis is exploring particular themes from the book that appeal to Western readers. In doing so, I hope my thesis will open a conversation about bringing in more diverse voices from across the globe to the U.S. literature scene. Additionally, as immigration plays a major role in the formation of the nation, I also want to bring a work of immigration literature into the limelight.
