Liz Deschenes Opens Photo Exhibition in Paris
Faculty member Liz Deschenes' Right/Left photography exhibition was on display last month at the prestigious Sutton Lane art gallery, marking her third solo exhibition of 2009 (and her first-ever in Paris).
The exhibition is composed of four large "photograms"—photosensitive sheets of paper that have been exposed to outdoor light and coated in silver toner—which serve to record the physical conditions that they were exposed to, as well as the chemical interactions between certain substances and light.
"Deschenes uses this exploration of photographic processes as a tool to investigate photography itself, the way the medium has been positioned and historicized as well as its relationship to other practices," the gallery said in a statement.
