Lerman '69 Honored
Liz Lerman '69 is the 2017 winner of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award and was also honored with an American Dance Festival's Distinguished Teaching Award.
Lerman is a didactic choreographer whose work often focuses on education. She currently teaches at Arizona State University.
The award, a $25,000 prize, will be presented to Lerman at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. The dance award was established in 2007 and honors socially conscious choreographers.
Lerman was also chosen to receive an American Dance Festival's Distinguished Teaching Award.
Dance Magazine covered her recent honors and observed that: "At a time when dance artists are seeking ways to engage in the questions of the day, Lerman provides a roadmap. Passionate about issues of social justice, she's found ways to incorporate social issues, from poverty to environmental protection, into her dances."
