Kaluah '18 Pens Op-Ed on Malawian Economy
Malawian student Khumboh Kaluah '18 wrote an op-ed in the Nyasa Times on the complex issue of his home country's transition to a less cash-predominant economy.
While there are a number of benefits to electronic transactions, including reduced crime, Kaluah says that going cashless "could solve one problem today at the expense of creating another the next."
"How do we even think of going cashless when the Ministry of Education Science and Technology reports that over five million people do not know how to read and write?" he asks.
"We need a stable macroeconomic environment more than we need a cashless economy."
