Journalist Amy Goodman on Speaking Truth to Power
Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman spoke at Bennington on the increased threats to freedom of the press, on her career as an independent journalist, and on her new bestselling book, Democracy Now!: Twenty Years Covering the Movements Changing America.
In more than 20 years of reporting, Democracy Now! has covered the social movements that are now forming the groundswell of opposition to the Trump administration; movements long ignored by the corporate media, but central to Democracy Now!'s daily journalism.
"There is a reason why our profession, journalism, is the only one explicitly protected by the U.S. constitution," said Goodman. "We're supposed to provide a check and balance on power."
