Janis Interviewed in MVT
Dina Janis, theatre faculty member and the artistic director of the Dorset Theatre Festival for the past six years, was interviewed in Manchester Vermont's website about her work reversing the fortunes of the formerly declining theatre.
According to the interview, Janis was "approached by the Board...[and]...embraced the idea that this unique theatre with such a respected history deserved to be brought back to life and enter the regional landscape as a real contender."
Her mission has been, and continues to be, to make theatre more accessible and central; as she said: “The theatre should be the kitchen table of the community. And that means everybody has to be at that table, not just the people who have the caviar."
Janis has studied, worked with, and supported some of the most talented actors, writers, and directors working in theatre today. She has worked for the company in conjunction with her fellow Bennington College faculty member Michael Giannitti.
Giannitti has extensive professional experience as a lighting designer and educator. He has designed lighting at many of the most prestigious venues around the country and has taught abroad as a two-time Fulbright Specialist Grant recipient.
