Four Students Awarded Top Writing Fellowships
Two Bennington students have been invited to Bucknell University this summer, and two others to Skidmore College, for highly selective, nationally sought-after creative writing fellowships.
Anais Duplan '14 and Esme Franklin '13 were two of 10 students chosen from U.S. colleges and universities for the 29th annual Bucknell Seminar for Young Poets. Held for three weeks in June at the University's Stadler Center for Poetry, the Seminar provides an extended opportunity for promising undergraduate poets to write under the guidance of established poets.
"I attended the Seminar as an undergraduate about 20 years ago," notes Bennington faculty member and award-winning poet Mark Wunderlich. "It set me on the path I'm on today."
Out of nearly 400 applicants, Alexandra (Sasha) Wiseman '15 and Jia Oak Baker, MFA '14, were two of 50 writers to win scholarships to the 27th annual New York State Summer Writers Institute. The program will be held from July 1- 26 at Skidmore College, and will feature creative writing workshops in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.
