Devon Walker-Figueroa '15 Awarded Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Scholarship
Devon Walker-Figueroa '15 has been awarded the Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Scholarship for the 2022-23 year by the Amy Lowell Trust.
The Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Scholarship is awarded annually to support travel abroad for gifted American-born poets. The American poet Amy Lowell died in 1925, and her will established this scholarship. The scholarship is administered by the Trustees under her will, at the law firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart in Boston, Massachusetts. The Trustees welcome applicants from all ethnic backgrounds to apply, as they strive to support and encourage a diverse group of poets.
Devon Walker-Figueroa '15 is the author of Philomath, selected for the 2020 National Poetry Series by Sally Keith and shortlisted for the National Book Critic Circle’s John Leonard Prize. She grew up in Kings Valley, a ghost town in the Oregon Coast Range, and received her education from Cornell University, Bennington College, the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and New York University. Her writing has appeared in The Nation, POETRY, the American Poetry Review, Lana Turner, The Harvard Advocate, Ploughshares, Zyzzyva, and elsewhere.
