Black Spring Opens in Usdan Gallery
Black Spring, an exhibition organized by current students representing past, present, and future black lives at Bennington, will be on view in Usdan Gallery until May 9.
The show sheds light on the history and future of the black experience at Bennington through audio, video, performance, sculpture, photography and text. Each week new works will be added in this exhibition that layers media, experiences of history and identity.
The show is the result of work and research accomplished in Karthik Pandian's "Black Studies: Black Spring" class, in collaboration with Michael Wimberly’s “Black Studies: Black Music Division” class, who did sound work for the installation.
There will be live performances each Tuesday night in the gallery space at 8:30 PM, including a potluck feast, entitled Homemade, on Tuesday, April 25 on the occasion of the visit of renowned artist Theaster Gates.
There will be a closing reception on May 9.
