Bennington Duo's Detroit Deli Defies Economy, CNNMoney.com Says
While the economic and automotive crises have forced many Detroit business owners to shut their doors, Jason Murphy '09 and Ben Hall '04 can barely keep the door of their deli closed.
"Come to Detroit's Eastern Market on a Saturday morning," a recent CNNMoney.com article said, "and you'll often see people lined up outside the door to eat at Russell Street Deli."
Murphy and Hall bought Russell Street Deli in August 2007 and—with a few tweaks to the menu and some good business sense—the deli has been thriving ever since. CNNMoney.com called the pair's ability to grow their business in today's economy "an impossible trick." Recently, they even expanded their hours just to keep up with demand.
