OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | WHO HAS YOUR ATTENTION?
On the 1st of October, the Friends of Attention will be hosting “SANCTUARIES OF ATTENTION” at Bennington College. The day-long workshop will mark the latest installment of a series of Attention Labs dedicated to the collective practice and reclamation of attention. These Labs are our response to the predation of the “Attention Economy,” a trillion-dollar industry that seeks to monetize our every waking moment and frack human eyeballs for commercial gain.
SANCTUARIES OF ATTENTION will convene participants over the course of a long Saturday at CAPA. The curriculum will center discussions and experimental practices in attention under the guidance of attention activists, artists and scholars. The workshops bear on the following topics:
● The History of the Attention Economy
● Art and Attention: The Protocol of the Shutter
● Attention and Urban Life: How to Live in a Place
● Attention, Friendship and Politics: Exercises in Radical Listening
Sessions will convene from 10:00am to 7:00pm, with a break for lunch.
Participants will acquire tools for collective resistance to the financial, commercial and technological systems commodifying human attention, as well as a newfound sensibility to the power of attention in their own lives and a deepened understanding of the role of attention in creating a better world. All are welcome.
