OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | Larissa Gaias, faculty candidate in Developmental Psychology will give a presentation titled: "Examining and Creating Inclusive and Equitable Educational Environments." Culturally responsive teaching practices can have important implications for the academic and socio-emotional development of diverse youth. Inclusive and equitable educational environments have the potential to reduce achievement gaps and disproportionality in disciplinary sanctions. This work systematically explores how school and classroom processes can contribute to educational equity, particularly through the reduction of bias in both teachers and students. This talk discusses various classroom strategies that can promote inclusivity in education. It furthers the research into how to integrate culturally responsive teaching practices into our conceptualization of what constitutes high quality learning environments for students.
