Opening reception for "Milford Graves: A Mind-Body Deal"

Come celebrate the opening of this nationally touring exhibition exploring the multifaceted work of legendary jazz innovator and beloved Bennington professor Milford Graves, with an in-gallery pop-up performance by Bennington music faculty.

Usdan Gallery presents “A Mind-Body Deal” as tailored to the Bennington context, where the late Graves inspired generations of students. The exhibition includes a collection of Graves’s hand-painted album covers and posters, idiosyncratic drum sets, multimedia sculptures, photographs, and costumes, with elements from his home, scientific studies, recording ephemera, and archival recordings.

A short performance during the opening, honoring Graves and his legacy, will include music faculty Senem Pirler and Michael Wimberly.

This performance is a collaboration between Usdan Gallery and the Carriage Barn Music Series.
