Part-time Status

STUDENT HANDBOOK: Academics and Field Work Term

Currently enrolled students wishing to register for fewer than 12 credits may apply for part-time status. Applications are approved for one term at a time. Students receiving financial aid should be aware that part-time status changes the amount of financial aid for which the student is eligible. Please consult the Financial Aid Handbook for more details. Housing is not guaranteed for part-time students and is available after all full-time students have secured housing.

International students studying on an F-1 student status are required to be enrolled in a full course load of at least 12 credits at all times during an academic term in order to remain in good standing with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Students in F-1 status may be able to drop below a full course load for documented medical reasons for a maximum of two academic terms. They may be enrolled as a part-time student if they need fewer than 12 credits to complete the requirements of the degree in their final term. Students should work closely with International Student Services when considering a course load of fewer than 12 credits to ensure that they remain in good standing with the USCIS.
