Jeff Peer '06
Jeff Peer, a doctoral student at the CUNY Graduate Center, received a Fulbright fellowship for 2016–17. The award allows him to research a form of literary journalism called the crónica urbana, following on the decades following the revolution (1920–1950) when Mexico City went through a drastic period of modernization, and the 1970s and '80s, which, following the Tlatelolco Massacre and a series of economic shocks, were years of crisis. He is focusing his attention on the newspaper essays of two key chroniclers of life in Mexico City, one active in the decades following the Mexican Revolution, the other prolific in the 1970s and 1980s, following the 1968 police and military massacre of student protesters.
