He eventually traveled to Los Angeles and worked in films as head of the art department and prop master as well as in a magic prop house fabricating illusions for performers such as David Blane. Griffis eventually returned home and became a fire technician and type 2 wildland firefighter for the Albany Pine Bush Preserve and the DEC. He would continue to be deployed to six western wildfires and is an active wildland firefighter to this day. After working at Pine Bush, he spent two years at Crystal I.S. as a crystal grown technician growing aluminum nitride crystals for use as sub straights for ultra violet LEDs. Griffis joined Bennington as a union carpenter in 2019 before becoming a technician for the science department in 2021.
