Omeed Goodarzi
Omeed Goodarzi '14 is a musician and composer whose practice spans the realms of philosophy, improvisation, home recording, songwriting, microtonality, and instrument building. His work focuses on microtonal music practices from the ancient world to the 20th century, acoustic ecology, and the philosophy of musical tuning.
Biography
As a long time and prolific musician Goodarzi has toured the world since the age of 15 as both a solo artist and as part of various creative music ensembles. Notably over the past decade he has released over 30 records through the venerable Feeding Tube Records label.
His self-directed musical practice has brought him to study music theory with Chris Weisman (with whom he has collaborated in groups Romantics, Omeed & The Natural Scene, and Intangible Shirt Company) and instrument building workshops at Looky Here in Greenfield, Massachusetts. He has also served as the creative director of The Anarchestra Foundation, as well as been awarded multiple honorariums by Amherst College, Bennington College and Hampshire College, lecturing on subjects ranging from sound design, microtonal music, improvisation for dance, and the philosophy of music. Goodarzi is currently a visiting lecturing artist and musical accompanist in the dance and theatre department at Amherst College. He received his BA in philosophy from Bennington College, and is currently pursuing his MFA in Music at Bennington.
