Biography

With a Master’s degree in Ceramic Art from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD),
Tafvizi's work explores the nuanced dialogues between material, space, and identity. Originally from Isfahan,
a city celebrated for its deep historical and cultural fabric, Tafvizi's artistic vision is profoundly shaped
by the rich tapestry of her heritage.

Her academic journey began with an undergraduate degree in Islamic Art from the Art University of
Isfahan, where she was drawn to the expressive potential of ceramics. This medium became her canvas
for exploring themes of belonging, cultural heritage, and the human-environment relationship. At RISD,
she deepened her technical mastery and conceptual approaches, notably integrating traditional methods
like Egyptian paste with modern techniques such as 3D printing.

In her teaching, Tafvizi fosters an environment of curiosity and exploration, encouraging students to
connect deeply with the material and its cultural significance. She believes in nurturing an awareness of
ceramics not only as an art form but also as a medium of personal and communal expression.

Tafvizi is a visiting faculty member at Bennington for Fall 2024.
