With academic backgrounds of religion, American Studies, and Comparative Literature, Jingsheng Zhang’s current research interests include Sinophone Studies and contemporary Chinese culture, with special focuses on literary/art societies and the Avant-garde.


Biography

Zhang is a scholar of Comparative Literature and contemporary Chinese literature and art. She received a BA of religion from Fudan University (China), another BA of English, MA of American Studies from Ruhr University at Bochum (Germany), and Ph.D. of Comparative Literature from University of South Carolina. She taught in the English Department and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of South Carolina before joining Bennington College as a visiting faculty member for Spring 2022. Her research interests involve modern and contemporary Chinese literature and art, Sinophone Studies, Chinese American Studies, Memory Studies, and Urban Studies. Zhang has taught a variety of language, literature, and university humanities core courses including Mandarin, German, World Literature, Chinese Literature and Culture, Academic Composition, Rhetoric, Film and Media Studies, and Social Advocacy and Ethnical Life. 

Zhang was a visiting faculty member at Bennington for the 2021-2022 academic years.
