Jack Yu
Biography
Yu is a ceramics artist. His studio practices vary in a range of ceramic related processes from thrown functional wares to large-scale clay sculpture installations. Yu’s current body of work incorporates post-consumer, mass-produced ceramic objects immersed in viscous glaze, creating sculptural compositions and functionality. His work focused on intersection of handmade and machine-made is investigated through the use of multiples and glaze phenomenology.
Yu studied art and ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred, NY and at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. In addition to his extensive teaching experience in both China and the United States, Yu has recently shown with Woods-Gerry Gallery, Providence, RI and Yellow Peril. He was a technical instructor in ceramics at Bennington from Fall 2015 through Spring 2018.
