Emily Wexler is a Brooklyn-based choreographer and dancer whose work explores the existential capacities of dance and performance through a collective exploration of memory and time. She works collaboratively in her work with dancers, students, artists, and senior citizens.

Biography

Wexler is a Bessie-nominated choreographer and dancer living in Brooklyn, NY. Her work has been seen in a variety of settings from MoMA PS 1, American Dance Festival, American Realness Festival, Movement Research at the Judson Church, The Knitting Factory, Center for Performance Research, and most distinctly in the living room of Communist/Activist Paul Robeson. As a performer, she works primarily with Kim Brandt, Ishmael Houston-Jones, Yvonne Meier, and Ryan McNamara. She has a longstanding collaborative relationship in her work with dancer Courtney Cooke. She was formally on faculty at the University of The Arts, teaching Critical Dance Studies and Choreographic Thinking Making Doing in the BFA program and as a mentor and professor in the MFA program. She has a BA and MFA in dance from Hollins University. She is a visiting faculty member in the BFA in Dance Lab and the Low-Residency MFA in Dance program at Bennington for the 2024-2025 academic year.
