Elizabeth White is an artist whose work ranges in form from photography to digital collage, installation, drawing, and social practice. Informed by a background in sociology and media studies as well as visual arts, she is interested in the social impact of photography and related technologies, and the politics of visual culture. 

Biography

White is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose work explores social, psychological, and political themes including maintenance and self-preservation, security and freedom, control and anxiety, and confrontation with the unknown. Often site- and context-specific, her projects are shaped by research and frequently incorporate others’ images, objects, and words. White’s work has been exhibited globally, including at the Tate Modern in London, and published in The New York Times Magazine and THE STATE (UAE), and she has been awarded residencies in Leipzig, Tbilisi, Marfa, Texas, and on Governor’s Island, and received support from CECArtsLink, the Hattie Strong Foundation, and LMCC/ Creative Capital. She holds a BA from Vassar College and an MFA in photography, video, and related media from the School of Visual Arts, where she was the recipient of an Aaron Siskind Fellowship.

White has been a faculty member at Bennington since 2011, and since 2015 has served as director of the College’s Museum Fellows Term program.
