Student Center Wins Architectural Excellence Award – Again

Apr 12, 2010

The Bennington College Student Center was one of four campus facilities nationwide to win a 2010 Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture for a New Building.

Designed by Taylor & Burns Architects, the Center is a lofty haven of cedar and glass that rolls the campus café, snack bar, and pub into one space with a state-of-the-art kitchen and ample seating. With an upholstered enclave for studying and conversation, and a wide-open performance space for concerts and readings, the Center has become a prime hang-out spot on campus since its 2007 completion.

In 2008, both the Boston Society of Architects and AIA New England recognized the building with Honor Awards for Design Excellence. The project has also been featured on the Architectural Record's website, and appeared in the premier edition of Winning Design: The Boston Society of Architects Annual Design Awards Review in January 2009.

For its most recent honor, the Student Center will appear on the SCUP website, in the October issue of Planning for Higher Education, and in the Tribute to Excellence newspaper in the coming weeks. It will also be recognized at the annual International Conference and Idea Marketplace in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in July.
