A short story by faculty member Rebecca Godwin was included in this year's "Best of the South" issue of Oxford American,
known as the southern magazine of good writing.
Her story, "The Long Weekend," portrays the complicated life of a 13-year-old girl living with her family on a U.S. military base in Germany when President John F. Kennedy is assassinated.
It was one of only three short stories featured in the issue.
A South Carolina native, Godwin's short fiction has appeared in Paris Review, Epoch, Crescent Review, South Carolina Review, Carve magazine, and elsewhere. She is the author of two novels, Private Parts and Keeper of the House.
